New Feet

Journal Entry: Sat Apr 19, 2008, 4:12 PM
I recently purchased some new presser feet... foots? for the sewing machine(s).

The first one I bought was a clear open toe foot. I, of course, bought it AFTER doing the zigzag stitching on Easter Parade Bunnies [link] and San Francisco in Blue [link] . :dohtwo: The foot is non-brand specific and fits the circa 1970 Kenmore machine I generally use.

Then on a separate trip to the store I picked up a walking foot and a quilter’s foot made by the same company. I’ve never managed to maintain a quarter inch seam on my own (and magnetic/tape guides cover the feed dogs on the one side); and one of the things that really bothered me with Baby’s Heritage [link] was all the shifting that occurred when I did the quilting.

I was so happy. I couldn’t wait to get home to try them out. :excited: But we had stopped at the store on our way to visit a relative, so it would be hours before I could try them. But I was still happy.

Unfortunately, shortly after we left the store, while waiting (stopped) at a red light, the vehicle behind us was rear ended (also waiting at the light), and ended up being launched into the back of our vehicle. Thankfully nobody was hurt, but we ended up spending about an hour on the side of the road getting the police reports taken care of. (We had both dogs with us… they thankfully were also okay, but they liked being on the side of the road even less than we did.)

I was little less happy.

We ended up not visiting our relative, but turned around and went home. At first I busied myself with empting the vehicle (so we could take it to a body shop), while my mother dealt with getting things taken care of with the insurance companies and letting people know we wouldn’t be showing up for a visit after all.

Later in the day I remembered to try the new quilter’s foot and walking foot. Insult was added to (lack of) injury though. The new feet didn’t fit the Kenmore.

Devastated may be too strong of a word for the situation, but in that moment, that’s what I was.

But, I decided that before returning the feet, I would try them on the 1930 Singer. So the next day I cleared off the cabinet, pulled out the machine, and tried the feet.

Success!

So now I have a clear open toe foot, a quilter’s foot and a walking foot. The only bad thing about having to use the Singer is that it ONLY does a forward straight stitch. So there will be no backstitching to lock threads or using a zigzag when quilting. The feet should make several of my projects easier, assuming I can manage my time effectively enough to even work on the projects.

Speaking of projects... I should be sewing now...

First Ten Feature

This was started back in December, [link] , [link] but I’ve decided to keep posting it until I’ve filled the slots. Please comment stating you’re interested in being featured. I will only add you to the feature if you request it.

The first ten (five as the five slots have been filled) people who comment on this journal (Again: Please comment stating you’re interested in being featured. I will only add you to the feature if you request it.) will have me go through their gallery and pick my three favorite deviations, which I will then feature in this journal.

The catch is that to qualify, you need to post the same deal in YOUR journal.

=minami63 and ~WolfenMoondaughter both caught my 5000th pageview. Felterfella was sent out to =minami63 and ~WolfenMoondaughter will be receiving Not Toaster Approved. Thanks to everyone who's been by. :)

I’ll be offering another Kiriban in the future, once I decide on a "what" and a "when". ;)

First Ten Feature

This was actually started back in December, [link] but I’ve decided to repost it. There are still slots open. Comment either on the original post or here to be added.

The first ten (five as the first five slots have been filled) people who comment on this journal will have me go through their gallery and pick my three favorite deviations, which I will then feature in this journal.

1. :iconadnileb:

While I’m not familiar with most of the characters ~adnileb’s plushies portray, they are still awfully cute! Be sure to check out her other deviations as well.

2. :iconquibblerme:

If I had a million dollars, I’d be likely to spend a large portion of it on *QuibblerMe’s jewelry and other items. Alas, I don’t have anywhere near a million dollars so I’m left with drooling at the photos. ;)

Jason makes such a lovely model, I’ll have to see if I can find an American cousin of his to model for me. ;) Assuming I ever find time to work on jewelry.

3. :iconjanes-wardrobe:

Going through *Janes-Wardrobe’s makes me realize that some people are truly insane in wonderful and inspiring ways. How anyone can be so dedicated to their craft to do the amount of hand sewing Jane does is beyond me. I grumble about sewing buttons on!

4. :iconvaia:

As Vaia participated in my last first-ten feature [link] I only looked at pieces she’s done since that posting. Even with the limiting of her gallery it’s hard to choose.

5. :iconfragilecraft:

It is so hard to choose from ~fragilecraft’s gallery. I  her glasswork.

I’m Still Here...

Journal Entry: Fri Jan 25, 2008, 11:56 AM
...Just very, very behind on things.

Somehow I let my watch and message center spiral out of control (although I guess it could be worse). I’m also behind on projects, both the things to be posted at dA and household varieties. Of course, being behind on projects really isn’t a new thing.

I’m ever so slowly getting through my watch and message center. For those who have left comments and faves, here is a general thanks. I’ll be getting to them individually... soonish?

I have a First-Ten feature running. [link] Those who have left comments already, I will get to your galleries. Those who haven’t signed up... Why not?

Another First Ten Feature

Journal Entry: Sat Dec 15, 2007, 5:04 PM
Felterfella has been won!

Well, I'll give this another shot. Saw this on :iconquibblerme: this time.

The first ten people who comment on this journal will have me go through their gallery and pick my three favorite deviations, which I will then feature in this journal.

The catch is that to qualify, you need to post the same deal in YOUR journal.

:new: And here I was worried that no one would catch my 5,000th pageview.

:iconwolfenmoondaughter: also caught my 5,000th pageview. As I already “awarded” Felterfella to *minami63 when I discovered =WolfenMoondaughter also caught it, I’ll be working something out with her and I’ll update this when I know what I’m doing for her. :)

Need a New Name

Journal Entry: Thu Nov 22, 2007, 2:02 PM
5,000 is coming up!
Watch the pageviews to win your very own Felterfella!

I’ve been calling the items I’ve made from felt, Feltworks. It seemed logical because they’re works made from felt.

But while going through a sales ad the other day I noticed that there are craft kits sold under the name Feltworks. I’ve decided I’d like to call my pieces something else to avoid any, however remotely possible, confusion.

Problem is, I’m not great at coming up with names. As I mentioned above, Feltworks came from the obvious. Clearly I need help in coming up with a name. So please help! Any ideas are welcomed.
