Superman Silver+Black Curtains

My brother has a street light outside his bedroom window that causes his room to glow orange at night even with his mini blinds closed. He asked me to make some curtains for his two windows that would block out the light. He also wanted them embellished.

He wanted the curtains to look like Superman’s “regeneration suit” (? ) [link] (See also the T-shirt he had me base the curtains on at bottom of deviation.)

In order to block the light I ended up with stretch moleskin (in black for the curtain and a bluish-charcoal grey for the symbol’s background) and a foil-printed polyester knit intended for swim/dancewear for the symbol.

The curtains are flat panels that measure 43 inches wide by 68 inches long. Close up of the symbol is at the top, center photos are of each curtain hanging, and bottom photo is as I said before, the T-shirt he wanted me to base the curtains on. I should have looked for a paler grey, but the one I used isn’t as black as it appears in the photos. The background the photos are set on is closer to the actual color.

The symbol is from the same template I used on the Superman Smoking Jacket - Robe [link] I used steam-a-seam 2 to attach the silver fabric to the grey and then the units was zigzag stitched along all silver edges (inside and outside of the symbol) to the finished black curtains. I used silver metallic thread on top and invisible thread (smoke) on the back. Because of tension issues due to the two different thread types, some of the silver thread is pulled to the back giving the wrong side of the curtain a backwards outline of the Superman , sometimes referred to as Bizarro’s symbol.

Between the curtains, the smoking jacket, and the slippers [link] if I never see the Superman symbol again it won’t hurt my feelings.

If he ever gets tired of the curtains, he can always use them as capes!
