Lily Blossoms

From the label: “Miss Lily Blossoms dresses herself in lily petals that match her lovely wings.”

Using Fairy_S___6_by_mjranum_stock [link] as a starting point I made Lily Blossoms, a lily fairy.

I used flesh colored cotton for the fairy’s body, and then painted white cotton for all other pieces (hair, petals, sky, ground, borders, backing, label). Her body and hair were cut from fabric after fusing two layers together so that the lower fabrics wouldn’t show through. There are eight petal shaped pieces making up her outfit, and four petals making her wings. Everything was fused onto the pieced background resulting in a raw edge appliqué. (The center of the piece is very stiff due to all the layers of fabric and Steam-a-seam2.)

After fusing her into place, she looked a bit flat, so I used fabric paint markers to add a bit of definition. She’s outlined using a brown fabric paint marker, and I used a white glitter fabric paint marker to give her wings a bit of sparkle.

Rings were sewn to the back so that a lily stem could be used as a hanging rod for the piece.

Finished piece is about 10 by 13 inches.
